Justine is up for the challenge
Justine Flack, a senior solicitor from Clarkes Solicitors in Telford will soon be embarking on a 4 month trip of a lifetime as a volunteer on the Mondo Challenge programme that sends volunteers to help with community based development programmes in Africa, Asia, South America and Eastern Europe.
Justine will teach English to 6 - 12 year old pupils in a small rural school of around 70 children in Penaherrera, Ecuador. The village is on the western slopes of the Andes in a subtropical forest, 2000m above sea level.
Justine said 'I was looking for a different challenge in my work life and this project gives me the chance to combine that with my love of travel. Living and working in the village will allow me to make a genuine connection with the local people and to give something back. Hopefully we will learn a lot from each other. I am thankful to Clarkes for allowing me the 4 month sabbatical to participate in the project '
She added 'The school barely receives any funding and resources are in short supply. Learning English is a luxury in that part of Ecuador but is wanted by the people as means to improve their lives. The children only have regular English lessons when there is a volunteer at the school. There is no syllabus so I will be making it up as I go along. As you can see, it really is a challenge !!'
